WEDNESDAY SCHOLASTICS: Cheshire boys lacrosse takes no prisoners; Cheshire boys volleyball stays undefeated

WALLINGFORD — Tim Hoynes and Jacob Herskowitz scored four goals apiece, while Sean Black and Jack Raba factored into 10 goals each, as the Cheshire boys lacrosse team powered past Lyman Hall 23-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Black scored twice and had eight assists. Raba had seven assists to go with his three goals.

In all, 12 different players factored into the scoring as the Rams improved to 5-1.

North Haven 14, Sheehan 0: P.J. Saracino’s four goals led the Indians to the SCC win in Wallingford. Matt Naser had 16 saves for Sheehan.

Girls lacrosse

Southington 9, Windsor 7: The Blue Knights (5-0) remained undefeated with the CCC victory Tuesday night over the Warriors (1-2).

Sarah Mafale scored four goals to fuel the winning attack. Sydney Brault scored twice.

Jessie Pesce and Emma Doran added one goal apiece. Pesce and Hallie Altwies had assists.

Julia Wells corralled 10 shots in the cage.

Sheehan 7, Sacred Heart Academy 6: Amanda Gray scored three goals and assisted on a fourth to lead the Titans past the SHArks Tuesday night at Ricccitelli Field.

Emilee Giacondino, Carlee Crispens, Cassie DuGay and Treva Carney also scored for Sheehan. Natalee Giacondino notched an assist. Kaitlin Mills made 17 stops in net.

Sheehan came away at 2-4. Sacred Heart fell to 0-4.

Boys golf

Sheehan 178, Foran 205: Eli Dyer’s medal round led the Titans to the SCC victory over the Lions at Grassy Hill Country Club and kept the Burgundy & Gold undefeated at 5-0.

Sheehan got additional scoring from Matt Wilson (43), Julian Nirmal (48) and Jake Meaney (49).

The Titans were coming off a 161-178 win over Branford on Tuesday at The Farms. Dyer and Nick Izzo shot 1-over-par 37s to share the medal with Branford’s Ryan Semper. Wilson (43) and Meaney (44) rounded out the Sheehan card.

Conard 157, Southington 162: The Blue Knights fell to 0-2 with with the CCC Central-Blue Division loss to the Chieftains at Hawk’s Landing.

Conard’s Luke Carroll shot even-par 35 to earn the medal. Southington’s Nate L’Heureux was one stroke back at 36.

The Blue Knights also got a 38 from Mike Zera. C.J. McManus and Colby Zegzdryn both carded a 44.

Maloney 206, Plainville 214: The Spartans collected their first win of the season in a CCC South-White Division contest on the back nine of Hunter Golf Club.

Demetre Carnot was medalist with a 9-over-par 45.

Other scorers for the Spartans (1-2 overall, 1-1 South White) were Nate Flis (47), Anna Billings (55) and Andrew Farnsworth (59).

Plainville is 0-5 overall and in the division.

Wilcox Tech 214, University 222: Andrew DiDomenico’s medal round of 8-over-par 44 led the Indians to the CSC crossover victory on the back 9 at Hunter Golf Course.

Ryan Mahoney and C.J. Emerton added rounds of 56 for Wilcox. Eric Pellegrino came in with a 58.

Wilcox is now 2-1 overall. University is 3-2.

Boys volleyball

Cheshire 3, Lewis Mills 2: The Rams stand at a spotless 6-0 after fending off the Spartans (2-3) in a nonconference match in Burlington.

Cheshire won the opening games 25-15 and 25-18. Lewis Mills answered with 25-17 and 27-25 verdicts in games 3-4. The Rams took the fifth set 15-12.

Mike Stickney slammed down 22 kills to lead Cheshire. Mitch Manware led the defense with eight digs. He and Stickney both had four aces.

Also for Cheshire, Matt Russolillo handed out 38 assists and Drew Hart collected seven kills.

Southington 3, Enfield 1: Tim Walsh pounded down 17 kills and Brian Durocher added 13 as the Blue Knights improved to 6-1 with the CCC victory in Southington.

Game scores were 25-21, 23-25, 27-25 and 25-20.

Setter Louis Gianacopolos dished 35 assists in directing the offense. He also had 15 digs to pace the D.

In all, the Blue Knights four players with double-digit digs. Durocher and Connor Brush has 12 apiece. Niko Sophroniou had 11.

Rockville 3, Maloney 0: The Rams (5-0) remained unbeaten with the straight-sets triumph in Meriden, winning by game scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-15.

Maloney (2-3) got another strong outing from Melvin Polanco, who racked up 13 assists, six kills, four aces and two blocks. Ethan Chuong added four kills and three blocks.
