FRIDAY SOCCER: Lyman Hall lashes Blue Devils with a 7-spot; Wilcox boys and Southington girls notch W’s

WALLINGFORD — Lyman Hall boys soccer coach Arnie Jandreau doesn’t mind telling you he’s pumped about his team his season. In Friday’s opener, the Trojans underscored their coach’s confidence.

Lyman Hall banged home four uanswered goals in the first half en route to a 7-3 non-conference crushing of Coginchaug at Fitzgerald Field.

The Trojans were led offensively by the power trio of Jack Gaynor Kevin Ransom and Tyler Stowik. They produced all seven goals. Gaynor had a hat trick. Ransom and Stowik scored twice apiece.

Stowik was the leading set-up man with three assists. Gaynor had two and Ransom one.

Andrew Mastroianni and Cam Regan split time in net. Mastroianni started and made four saves without allowing a goal. Regan came on in the second half and stopped five shots while allowing three goals.

Wilcox Tech 2, Windham Tech 0: Chris Aceves twice converted feeds from Kelvin Cortez and Tanner Rhodes made four stops between the pipes to lead the Indians to the CTC victory over the Beavers in Meriden.

Wilcox had a big territorial edge in this game. The Tribe out-shot Windham Tech 14-4.

Middletown 1, Platt 0: Jeff Turro’s goal in the 30th minute stood as the game-winner as the Blue Dragons and Panthers kicked off the season with a CCC South-Colonial contest in Meriden.

Kalan Martin made four saves to notch the shutout. Platt junior goalie Cameron Germe collared eight.

Germe had some fine play in front of him. In particular, the Panthers got strong performances from senior center back Christian Gomez and sophomore right back Alfred Dushi.

Southington 1, Hall 1: Joe Colacchino’s goal early in the second half was answered by John Punt’s rocketing free kick that deflected home off a Southington player, leaving the Blue Knights and Hall with a well-played CCC West Colonial draw in Southington.

Colacchino scored when he picked off a pass from the Hall keeper and tucked it home. Hall’s goal came with 19:11 to play.

Both goalkeepers, Evan Daddona for Southington and Clay Courtmanche for Hall, had five saves.

Girls

Southington 1, Hall 0: Kelly Doyle’s goal from Natalie Verderame lifted the Blue Knights to the CCC West-Colonial Division victory in West Hartford.

Southington enjoyed a heavy territorial advantage. Hall goalie Sarah Peschke gave her team a fighting chance with 15 saves. Olivia Sherwood had to make just two for Big Blue.
