PHOTOS: 20 years ago this month in Wallingford — Tax scam arrests, Shaw’s opens, golf course expands, wells tainted



WALLINGFORD — The town’s tax assessor Francis Barta and appraiser Kenneth Raby were charged with scamming taxpayers by removing vehicles belonging to themselves and their friends from the tax rolls. Both officials would eventually strike plea deals with prosecutors.

Meanwhile, a new Shaw’s Supermarket opened, Harbour Ridge Golf Course (now The Tradition) expanded and bacteria was detected in residential drinking water wells.
