Cheshire Art League to host demonstration
The Cheshire Art League will host accomplished Thai chef Suchada, who will demonstrate the artistic carving of vegetables and fruits at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Cheshire Public Library 104 Main St.
Cheshire Garden Club meeting
There will be an open meeting of the Cheshire Garden Club at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, at Masonic Hall, 9 Country Club Road. The guest speaker will be Gary Ginsburg,who will speak on “What’s Toxic, What’s Not.” Visitors are welcome. For information, contact, Sue at 203-631-9340. Veterans Day ceremony
Cheshire’s annual Veteran’s Day ceremony will be relocated this year. This year’s event, normally on the Green, will take place at Veterans Memorial Plaza in front of Town Hall. The ceremony is sponsored by the Cheshire Veterans Council, which consists of American Legion Post 92, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10052, the Army Air Force Round Table, Disabled American Veterans and AmVets. The ceremony will last about 45 minutes. The Council advises bringing lawn chairs for those with limited mobility.
Free programs for Cancer survivors
The Cheshire Community YMCA is seeking participants for its LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a free, 12 week, small group program designed for adults affected by cancer. The program will take place Mondays and Fridays from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The actual start date will be determined based on registrations. Women’s Club meeting
The Women’s Club welcomes new members, and is an active community service organization. Meetings take place the first Thursday of the month at the Senior Center. Membership is open to all women of Cheshire and the surrounding towns. For information, contact Paulette at 203-272-8779.
Cheshire Public Library, 104 Main St., hosts Adult Loft Knitters, for advanced/intermediate knitters, monthly on the second Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to noon. Come to socialize, learn, and share your techniques with other knitters. Supplies will be provided but feel free to donate or bring your own and don’t forget to ask your friends to join. Introduction to Microsoft Word
The Cheshire Public Library, will present Introduction to Microsoft Word, a three part series scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25. Attendees will learn basic navigation skills to effectively use the Microsoft Word program; create a simple document; edit text and check spelling errors; format the document; insert a picture; change font formatting and much more. Accordionists to gather
CHESHIRE — Interested in playing the accordion? The next gathering of the Connecticut Accordion Association will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Waverly Tavern, 286 Maple Ave. Accordions will be provided, or bring your own and jam with the group. Jam followed by “Accordion Plus” open mic. Any and all musicians welcome to join with an accordionist to perform. There is a fee to attend. RSVP to Marilyn at 203-272-1202 by Oct. 27. The Cheshire High School Young Democrats will host its annual political rally at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the Cheshire Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave.
The cost of admission will include dinner. State and federal democratic candidates will be at the event to meet and greet voters. In addition, other guest speakers will also be addressing the attendees. A detailed list of guests will be released the week of the event.
The Town of Cheshire Leaf Collection Program will begin on Monday, Nov 6. All leaves must be placed curbside the evening prior to the collection date, and must be in paper biodegradable bags. Residents may take properly bagged leaves to the PW Garage, 1286 Waterbury Road, on Mondays during the scheduled collection period from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. free of charge. The collection will begin on Monday of each week as follows and collection will continue throughout the week until all targeted streets are completed: Nov. 6 – 17. All streets will have an initial pickup; Week of Nov. 20 - All residences east side of Route 10 (Wallingford side); Week of Nov 27, - All residences west of Route 10 (Waterbury side); Week of Dec. 4, - All residences east side of Route 10; Week of Dec. 11, - All residences west of Route 10. Inclement weather or unexpected emergencies could delay the collection of leaves. Contact the Public Works Department at 203-271- 6650 with any questions.
Veterans Day Change
The annual Veterans Day ceremony that takes place on the Green at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 will be changed to the Veterans Memorial Plaza in front of Town Hall. For further information, contact Commander White at 203-272-2151 or at email@example.com.
