BERLIN – Ferndale Market Fresh will close its doors Friday after opening in the spring of 2016.
A manager who answered the phone Thursday said the Chamberlain Highway market would close around 5 p.m.
“We don’t have enough people come in,” he said.
Owner Edwin Sanchez was not available for comment. He purchased the store from Salim and Samira Saleh last fall, saying he planned “low prices and more variety.”
The market was updated when it opened last year with new shelves, floors, refrigeration and handicap accessible bathrooms.
Economic Development Director Chris Edge is looking for a new tenant.
“I’m sad they’re going out of business,” he said Thursday. “I do have someone I’m pursuing.”
The building had previously housed Roger’s Marketplace for more than a decade.
