Berlin mayor discusses plan for town manager with new council

BERLIN – The Town Council met for the first time Tuesday night since the election with two incumbents and four new councilors.

“We might want to have an executive session to bring everyone up to speed,” said Mayor Mark Kaczynski regarding the nearly year-long search for a new town manager.

Jack Healy, Public Works Director and Town Engineer, was approved unanimously by the council to become Acting Manager effective Nov. 27.

Healy has held both interim and temporary manager positions since the previous council approved a separation agreement with former town manager Denise McNair.

The new council will continue where the old members left off in the search committee which interviewed three candidates including Healy. The candidates were put on hold until after the election.

The Acting Manager status cannot exceed April, 25, 2018. Healy’s stipend will remain at $3,000 a month in addition to his public works salary.
