BERLIN – Santa will pay a visit to Berlin later this month as part of the annual tree lighting event in Veteran’s Memorial Park.
“It went pretty well last year,” said Jim Simons, fire administrator.
The Berlin fire departments took over the event quickly last year from the group Raising Berlin which was unable to continue the town tradition.
The tree lighting has been held annually since 2009. The fire departments continued the fun last year with hundreds of people in attendance.
“We want more people to be aware of it,” said Kim Pethigal, a coordinator for the event.
The holiday tradition kicks off Saturday, Nov. 25, at 4 p.m. The Berlin High School band will perform until Santa comes to light the tree at 5 p.m.
Dance Step off Farmington Ave., will perform at 5:15 p.m. and will be a new addition to the festivities.
Pictures will Santa will start at 5:15 p.m. and go until the end of the event at 6:30 p.m.
UpBeat students from the high school will help with a holiday craft. The Kiwanis hot chocolate and coffee truck will be available for warm treats throughout the night.
There will be a toy drive and a “Fill the Boot,” where monetary donations will be given to Berlin veterans.
Parking will be offered in the Stop and Shop lot, American Legion space and areas around the park.
