Nichole Vega says she is more than a hair stylist.

“I just want to be behind the chair doing my art,” she said. Ten years after she opened Envy Salon in downtown Newington, Vega recently celebrated a second start in Berlin with a new, more spacious storefront at 224 Berlin Turnpike.

The salon joins Fresh Monkee as the first businesses to move into the retail plaza adjacent to the Acura of Berlin dealership.

“This is what sang to us,” Vega said, adding that the central location will allow her to stay close to her longtime clients and attract new ones.

She loves the tall windows in her new salon, saying they flood the room with light. Being close to Assa Abbloy and Eversource – two of the largest employers in the area – provides plenty of visibility, Vega said.

“I think they bring a new vibrancy to the building. I think it’s great to see that we have one of the most respected salons in central Connecticut come to Berlin,” said town Economic Development Director Chris Edge.

Many of her customers have been coming to Vega for almost a decade.

“You feel like a whole new person,” said New Britain resident Agatha Warjas. “Nichole is awesome, she does make you feel envied.”
