Holiday spirit races to the finish in 33rd annual Tinsel Fun Run

BERLIN – Nearly 200 people participated in the 33rd annual Tinsel Fun Run Saturday at Berlin High School.

“It was a lot more than last year,” said Donelle Daigle, youth and family director at the Berlin-New Britain YMCA. “It was all around a great event.”

The annual fun run is hosted by the YMCA and Berlin Parks and Recreation Department.

Participants raced the 2 mile course in their best holiday attire featuring snow characters, santas, reindeer, and other themed outfits.

The top Berlin finishers were Michael Parzych, 15, and Marie Schweitzer, 37.

The top spot overall went to Michael Vesci, 18, of Newington.

Parzych took second place overall.

Awards were given to the top three finishers in each age category, 10 and under to 70 and over.
