BERLIN — An injured off-road vehicle passenger was airlifted for medical treatment Sunday after sustaining a severe leg injury in the woods near Summit Wood Drive.
Deputy Police Chief Christopher Ciuci said the passenger was riding on the back of an all-terrain vehicle, which are prohibited in the area, when they received the injury. The driver of the vehicle did not remain on scene, although the ATV was left with the injured passenger.
Emergency services received a call of an individual with an injured ankle at approximately 4:30 p.m., and upon arrival paramedics made the decision to request Lifestar due to the amount of blood loss the patient had experienced, Ciuci said.
Berlin Fire Administer Jim Simons said emergency crews used ATVs to extricate the individual from the woods for treatment and transport.
