BERLIN – A high school teacher is on paid administrative leave following an investigation.
Math teacher Michael Cwirka, a Meriden resident, was placed on leave earlier this month due to an investigation related to his conduct. The nature of the investigation has not been disclosed.
In a letter dated Feb. 12, obtained by a Freedom of Information request, Berlin School Superintendent Brian Benigni said he met with Cwirka Friday, Feb. 9 in connection to the investigation.
In the letter, Cwirka is ordered not to come to school or any school-sponsored events, and is barred from any contact with students or their parents.
Benigni said last week he could not comment on the details of the investigation because it is a personnel matter.
Cwirka is also head coach of the girls’ swimming team at Berlin High School.
