The Berlin Police Department has obtained a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Division to support increased DUI detection and enforcement efforts. The enforcement program is scheduled through Labor Day, 2018.
The purpose of these patrols and checkpoints is to reduce accidents and injuries related to under-the-influence drivers and to help provide safe travel.
As part of the program, a DUI sobriety checkpoint is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, July 12, on the Berlin Turnpike, south of Deming Road.
