BERLIN – Soldiers overseas will have a brighter holiday season thanks to 250 care packages filled with donated treats and necessities.
Berlin resident Karen Cote started the project in 2015 when her son was deployed to Kuwait. Ever since then Cote and a group of volunteers have been putting together more and more care packages for troops overseas.
“We all agreed it was the best one yet,” Cote said.
On Thanksgiving night, nearly 400 people gathered at the New Britain VFW on Veterans Drive to gift wrap the 250 boxes. Half the boxes will go to Kuwait while the other half will go to a Connecticut soldier in Afghanistan.
