CHESHIRE – Abilities Without Boundaries is holding its 9th annual Hot Coco 5k and Fun Run Saturday at Norton Elementary School. It starts at 10 a.m. and over 900 participants are expected,
The event begins with a fun run for kids, followed by the 5K. Participants from Abilities Without Boundaries will greet runners at the start and announce the race. Last year’s event raised over $30,000, according to Chris Loynd, an AWB spokesman.
“We want runners to know what they’re running for and we want to keep the people in our programs involved,” said Loynd. “It’s going to be a beautiful day tomorrow so we’re hoping to get a lot of people to come out and support us.”
Abilities Without Boundaries is a non-profit organization that provides day programs and employment for disabled adults in Connecticut.
The money raised from the 5K will go toward expanding and improving the program.
Dr. Lloyd Saberski, event chairman and Abilities Without Boundaries board member, said in a press release that the event is more about raising awareness.
“Abilities Without Boundaries offers an important service to our community and this race greatly raises our organization’s visibility,” said Saberski. “We rely upon our local communities to provide job opportunities for our program participants, as well as funding support.”
