CHESHIRE — An Oakville man faces charges after police said he was driving under the influence when he struck four mailboxes and two utility poles early Friday.

Avery Freeman, 23, of 178 Mount Vernon Ave., Oakville, was charged Friday with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

A car Freeman was driving struck four mailboxes, two large boulders and two utility poles near 53 Peck Lane around 2:40 a.m.

Officers noticed Freeman had bloodshot, glassy eyes, his speech was slurred and he was swaying while standing, according to a police report.

Freeman failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He gave a breath test at the police station, which showed he had a blood alcohol level at about .14, the report said.

Freeman was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Friday. Bond was set at $500 and he is due back in court on Feb. 22.
