Police: Meriden man fled from officers after dispute at Cheshire restaurant

CHESHIRE — A Meriden man faces charges after police said he fled from officers after a dispute at Cheshire Pizza & Ale in June.

Michael Zimmitti, 24, of 125 Pembrook Court., Meriden, was charged Monday with engaging police in pursuit, breach of peace, and reckless driving.

The June 15 incident began around 11:30 p.m. when Zimmitti approached three men in the Highland Avenue restaurant and threatened to assault them, according to his arrest warrant. One of Zimmitti’s friends restrained him and took him outside and Zimmitti got in his car and drove off when an officer arrived.

The officer engaged Zimmitti in a brief chase, before breaking off the pursuit and returning to the restaurant.

Zimmitti was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Monday. He was ordered to stay away from the restaurant and released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 10.
