CHESHIRE— Maple Avenue is flooded after a vehicle struck a fire hydrant in front of Ion Bank.

The SUV crashed into the hydrant around 8:15 p.m. Thursday night when the driver drifted off the road around the corner of Maple Avenue and West Main Street.

The driver of the SUV has no injuries, according to police. There were no passengers in the vehicle. The car sustained heavy damade to the front tire and axial.

The fire hydrant is still spilling water into the road until Regional Water Authority gets to the scene. Traffic will be reduced to one lane outside Ion Bank.

Regional Water is expected to resolve the issue by midnight, according to police. Nearby residents may notice some brown tap water over the next few days after the hydrant is replaced, according to police.
