The mysteries of the human heart and what makes it tick will be evident when visitors take a stroll through a gigantic inflatable heart at the 10th annual Healthy Family FunFest on Sunday, Feb. 24. This free festival, Southington’s most popular event focused on health and wellness, has been scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St.
Visitors will be able to enter The MEGA HeartTM via the superior vena cava, the largest vein, and leave through the aorta, the largest artery that exits the heart. This interactive exhibit, which measures 21 feet long, 15 feet wide and 12 feet tall, showcases heart disease, the leading cause of death in the U.S. Individuals will be able to learn about cardiovascular functions, see examples of heart disease and learn more about risk factors and latest medical treatments. Cardiac specialists from Hartford HealthCare Heart and Vascular Institute will provide heart health education. A representative from Medical Inflatables® will be on hand to guide a tour through The MEGA HeartTM.
Healthy Family FunFest will also feature Hartford HealthCare medical professionals and community members to provide a wealth of information for individuals of all ages. Offerings include free health screenings (including blood pressure, glucose and balance), demonstrations, educational materials, giveaways and special activities focused on Healthy Minds; Aging Well; Women’s Health; Sports Medicine/ Rehabilitation; and Kids Area. Special guests include Cory Myers and Renee DiNino, of iHeartMedia, and Rob Dibble, Southington native, former professional baseball player and sports analyst. Offerings include screening mammograms for eligible women, the Family Fitness Challenge, child vision evaluations, child car seat safety checks, and much more.
Healthy Family FunFest’s premiere sponsor is the Bradley H. Barnes & Leila U. Barnes Memorial Trust at Main Street Community Foundation and the team player sponsor is the Dental Group of Meriden-Wallingford. The event is presented by Hartford HealthCare and the Southington Community YMCA. Visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for Southington Bread for Life.
