Employees of Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation & Affiliates surprised students, teachers, and staff at their adopted school, John Barry Elementary School, with a check for $5,069 on Monday, Dec. 11. The donation is a dollar-for-dollar company match to the funds Rocky Hill employees contributed to their annual United Way campaign.
Principal Daniel Crispino announced that the school plans to purchase 3D printer technology to promote teamwork and problem solving with real challenges facing the community. Additionally, new math and reading software will keep students at all skill levels engaged and challenged.
Great Lakes is dedicated to improving lives through education.
Kerwin noted that the connections Great Lakes forges with staff and students at its adopted schools go beyond dollars and cents. These relationships have been built over several years through volunteer work; snack, book and school supply collection drives; and other activities.
This is the second time John Barry Elementary has received the Great Lakes matching funds. Last year, the school purchased additional technology for classrooms.
