Edward Carabillo, 90, was killed in the crash, which occurred about 6:40 p.m., said Police Lt. Anthony DeMaio. It involved a 2016 Audi, driven by Carabillo, and a 2012 Nissan Titan pickup truck, driven by Ronald Bonito, 69, of Wallingford. Bonito suffered minor injuries, DeMaio said. A front seat passenger in Carabillo’s car, identified as Natalie Einson, 82, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, DeMaio said.

Police determined Carabillo was driving west on Northfield Road and Bonito was driving north on South Colony Road (Route 5), DeMaio said. Carabillo tried to turn left from Northfield Road into the southbound lane of South Colony Road. Carabillo’s Audi entered the intersection and struck the Nissan, DeMaio said.

Traffic was impacted in the area for about three and a half hours as police reconstructed the accident, DeMaio said.

The investigation is ongoing and any witnesses are asked to contact Officer Anthony Baur at 203-294-2817.
