WALLINGFORD — Knitters can warm up with handmade blankets from Stacey T’s Treasures boutique and studio on Center Street.
“The latest craze that is taking over is the hand-knitting chunky blankets workshops that I do,” said owner Stacey Tarasiewicz.
The nearly two-year old shop is half boutique with handmade gifts, and half studio space where craft classes are held. Classes include sign painting and blanket making.
While this month’s blanket class is already sold out, another class will be held Feb. 24 at 10 a.m., and 5 p.m., at the 42 Center St. shop. Stacey T’s also expects to hold a blanket class in early March.
Participants will be guided step-by-step to make their own lap-size soft blanket made from machine-washable acrylic yarn. The blanket is created by weaving the yarn through loops in a crisscross pattern.
The most difficult part, Tarasiewicz said, is starting the blanket and tying it off at the end.
“You don’t need any experience,” she said.
She decided to host the workshops after receiving a positive response from her own blankets, which she learned how to make from videos on YouTube. The first workshop two months ago sold out.
“It’s a great way to get together and make something yourself that you get to take home,” Tarasiewicz said. “People are blown away that they can do it in one class.”
Participants can bring their own drinks and snacks. Registration can be completed online or in person ahead of time.
