CHESHIRE – A giant flag pole figure of folklore lumberjack Paul Bunyan greets visitors at Extreme Air trampoline park at what was formerly a House of Doors business warehouse.
“I said, ‘dad, you have to take all the doors out of the warehouse and just put in trampolines,” said Jacqueline “Jack” Sirois, manager at Extreme Air, 540 W. Johnson Ave.
The 20-year old is the third generation of business creators. Her grandfather started a tree business and his son, Don Siriois, her father, followed by by opening retail business House of Doors and now Extreme Air next door. The indoor trampoline park opened in March.
Paul Bunyan has remained part of the Siriois businesses as an unofficial mascot. Beyond the rustic front desk, complete with wood barrels upcycled into shelving, is the indoor trampoline park.
“It’s great,” said first-time visitor Brian Byrne of Wolcott. “It’s a lot of fun, there are so many different things for the kids to do.”
The park offers several different activities based off more than a dozen in-ground trampolines.
Guests can bounce and dunk on a hoop that can go as much as 20 feet high with the push of a button. They can dodge getting hit from their friends in the Extreme Dodgeball area or jump from a rock climbing wall into an air bag.
Byrne’s son, who recently celebrated his birthday at Extreme Air, tried out the Battle Beam and “jousted” with a friend. His other friends bounced on trampoline floors on the other side of the room.
Parents watched from above in the Parent Penthouse area, a loft made up of couches and massage chairs.
“It’s not just the kids dragging their parents here, it’s the parents dragging their kids here because the parents love the parent area,” Sirious said.
She said Extreme Air attracts all ages with the parent area, trampoline area and refreshment counter in the lobby, along with a small arcade.
The business recently started Glow Nights on Fridays and Saturdays with laser lights, music and even glow-in-the-dark face paint for guests 13-years old and up.
Sirious said they are also looking into doing Nerf war activities.
“It’s just a really fun place to be,” Sirious said. “I love working here, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
