Rhett and Bailey are two male beagles up for adoption at the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Ave.
Shelter manager Carlos Melendez said the dogs are “very social” with people, but are more reactive and “barky” around other dogs, a behavior common in beagles. The shelter isn’t an ideal environment for the pair, Melendez said.
“There's so many distractions, so many other dogs,” he said. “Once they're away from distractions, they're pretty calm. They're very food-driven, very treat-driven. They don't take a lot of exercise, they mostly just hang out.”
Rhett, 7, is the father of Bailey, 5. They recently came to the shelter after their previous longtime owner surrendered them. Melendez said the dogs don’t have to be adopted together. The dogs can’t go to a home with a cat, he added.
Name: Rhett and Bailey
Age: Rhett is 7, Bailey is 5
