Meriden/Wallingford campership fund reaches $20,412 in third week

The Summer Campership Fund for Meriden and Wallingford finished the third week at $20,412 with new donations totaling $7,800 including gifts from Carolyn MacDuff in memory of her late husband, Robert MacDuff, $130; Frank and Elizabeth Cirillo, $200; Anonymous, $130; Philipa and Donna Zaleski, $130; Nancy Squire, $120; Robert and Marguerite Dwyer, $5,200; Paul Moquin in memory of Elaine Moquin, $520; Liberty Bank, $1,500. The Fund is in its 43rd year offering campership awards of $130 to boys and girls in financial need in Meriden and Wallingford to attend local camps. Participating camps are Boys & Girls Club of Meriden, Meriden YMCA, Girl’s Inc., Wallingford YMCA, the Salvation Army, and the Ulbrich Boys & Girls Club. 

This year’s goal is $64,000 in order to fund 500 camperships.  One hundred percent of the funds raised are used directly to fund camperships. Last year, $62,573 was raised to award 470 camperships to attend two week sessions at the local camps. 

Applications for campership awards have been distributed in Meriden and Wallingford schools. Applications and proof of family income must be brought to the camp office of choice. Families applying must submit a DSS budget sheet or a completed 2017 income tax form. For more information, contact Meriden Health and Human Services at . The program is sponsored by the Record-Journal, the United Way and Ion Bank and administered by Meriden Health and Human Services.
