Campership fund for Meriden/Wallingford reaches $28,700

The Summer Campership Fund for Meriden and Wallingford finished its seventh week at $28,700.

New donations were received from  Wallingford Community Women, $50; Barbara Langner in Memory of Fred Langner and his Donor, $130; Center Congregational Church Missions Committee, $356; Marie LeVan, $130; Anonymous, $390 and a gift of $833.83 from The MembersFirst CT Federal Credit Union as a matching gift to donations from its members.

This year’s goal is $64,000 in order to fund 500 camperships.  One hundred percent of the funds raised are used directly to fund camperships. Last year, $62,573 was raised to award 470 camperships to attend two week sessions at the local camps. 

Applications for campership awards have been distributed in Meriden and Wallingford schools. Applications and proof of family income must be brought to the camp office of choice. Families applying must submit a DSS budget sheet or a completed 2017 income tax form. For more information, contact Meriden Health and Human Services at . Camperships will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

The program is sponsored by the Record-Journal, the United Way and Ion Bank and administered by Meriden Health and Human Services. The Record-Journal publishes all contributions unless requested to be anonymous.
