Car strikes Frenchy’s Auto Repair in Wallingford, driver transferred to hospital

WALLINGFORD —  One person was transferred to a hospital with unknown injuries after crashing into a building on Main Street.

The vehicle crashed into Frenchy’s Auto Repair at 508 Main St. about 7 p.m. The driver, and sole occupant, was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital after being found unconscious on scene, according to Fire Battalion Chief Kris Sundwall. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time. The car’s airbags were deployed.

Police say the driver faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and they will investigative if he was under any influence at the time of the incident.

A witness who declined to give his name said the vehicle was coming down Old Colony Road when it drove through the stop sign and crossed the road, ultimately hitting the building.

The building sustained moderate damage, according to Sundwall. The building inspector was requested to the scene.
