MERIDEN — A Waterbury man suffered serious injuries after his car rolled down an embankment on Interstate 691 east Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. near exit 5. State police said Alexander Tenore, 29, of Waterbury, was traveling east on Interstate 691 when his car struck a wire guardrail before crashing down a 60-foot embankment.
Firefighters used a rope system to extricate Tenore from the car. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.
Fire Chief Ken Morgan said Life Star was requested but could not respond due to high winds. One lane was closed and traffic was delayed back to exit 3, according to the state Department of Transportation.
State police are investigating the crash.
