Fire damages apartment unit in Meriden

MERIDEN — Fire damaged an apartment on Crown Street Wednesday, displacing at least one tenant.

The fire was reported around 5:10 p.m. in an apartment in the Spring Hill Complex, 465 Crown St. No one was believed to be home in the unit at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries.

Firefighters saw flames coming from a window on the first floor when they arrived and a second alarm was issued, said Fire Chief Ken Morgan. Mutual aid was requested from surrounding towns.

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze to the kitchen of one unit, which suffered significant damage. It was unclear if other units in the two-story building sustained smoke damage, Morgan said.

The fire was under control by 5:20 p.m. A section of Crown Street was closed to traffic.
