The Hartford Yard Goats will become the Hartford Steamed Cheeseburgers for one game this upcoming season.

Ted’s Restaurant in Meriden will be serving steamed cheeseburgers and players for the Double-A baseball team will wear special steamed cheeseburger-inspired caps and jerseys.

“Chompers is going to be eating steamed burgers the whole game,” Yard Goats President Tim Restall said of one of the team’s mascot.

Restall said many minor league baseball teams are using local delicacies as their moniker for games. The Yard Goats will become the Steamed Cheeseburgers for their Aug. 12 game against the The Bowie Baysox, of Maryland.

“Everyone has an opinion of what represents their area,” he said. “Social media has been fun to watch.”

Restall had his first steamed cheeseburger during a visit to Ted’s Restaurant. Ted’s will also be serving steamed cheeseburgers during other select games throughout the season.

Ted’s Restaurant owner Bill Foreman said he’s looking forward to the game and hopes to find new customers.

“We’re excited for the opportunity. I think it’s going to be great for them and us,” he said.

On Feb. 14, the Yard Goats opened pre-orders for their steamed cheeseburger-themed hats players will be wearing during the August game.
