Man charged with firing gun during 2018 fight appears in Meriden court



 

MERIDEN — A man charged with firing several shots during a fight between a group of people last year appeared in court on Wednesday.

Stephen Lawson, 30, of 103 Brooke St., New Britain, was charged on Sept. 27, 2018 with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and no pistol permit. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. 

According to statements in Meriden Superior Court on Wednesday, the state laboratory is performing ballistic tests related to the case. Lawson’s next court appearance is Oct. 18. 

Police responded to Springdale Avenue and Hillside Avenue on July 14, 2018 around 2 a.m. for a report of a fight between groups of people. Witnesses said a man, later identified as Lawson, fired several shots from a handgun during the fight, police said. Several 9 mm shell casings were found at the scene.
