Meriden police charge man with robbery in incident at liquor store

MERIDEN — A man faces charges after police said he stole two bottles of liquor from a store Sunday and told a clerk that chased after him that he was armed.

Jose Juan Garcia-Correa, no age or address given, was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree breach of peace and sixth-degree larceny.

Garcia-Correa reportedly stole the two bottles and fled Big M Liquor, 71 Pratt St., around 5 p.m., police spokesman Lt. John Mennone said. When a store clerk caught Garcia-Correa near Catlin and Miller streets, Garcia-Correa struck the clerk in the arm with a bottle and told him he had a gun.

Officers identified Garcia-Correa after viewing video surveillance, Mennone said.

His bond was set at $25,000 bond and he is due back in court on April 5.
