Police: Meriden man assaulted woman, turned on gas stove while baby in home

MERIDEN — A local man faces charges after police said he assaulted a woman and turned on the gas burner to a stove while the woman and a seven-month-old baby were inside a home.

Louis Murphy, 33, of 204 Broad St., N1, was charged Saturday with risk of injury to a minor, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, and disorderly conduct.

Police responded to the Broad Street residence around 11:45 p.m. for a report of an intoxicated man acting violently. A woman told police Murphy pushed her against a wall and held her by the throat, according to a police report. When he left the home and tried to get back in, the woman noticed he had turned on the gas stove with no flame, the report said.

Murphy was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court Monday. The judge set bond at $5,000 and continued the case to June 6.
