MERIDEN — A 20-year-old man has been charged in an assault last year that left two men injured.

Edgar Soto, 20, of 289 Cherry St., New Britain, was charged Feb. 16 with conspiracy to commit second-degree assault with a firearm and third-degree assault.

On Aug. 30 police responded to Bob’s Stores and Eastern Mountain Sports, 160 Corporate Court, for a report of gunshots and an assault, according to Soto’s arrest warrant. Corporate Court is located off Research Parkway.

A woman was walking to her car with a man when a car pulled up beside them. Two men, one of whom was identified as Soto, got out of the car and assaulted the man, the warrant said.

Soto and the second suspect also assaulted another male employee who tried to intervene. The warrant said the second suspect struck the employee in the head with a gun, causing it to discharge. The employee was not struck by the bullet.

Both injured men were taken to MidState Medical Center. One suffered a laceration to his neck, the warrant said.

Soto was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday. Bond was set at $10,000 and he is due back in court on Feb. 22.
