Bridgeport man charged with robbery, assault in Meriden

MERIDEN — A Bridgeport man faces charges after police said he pushed another man to the ground and stole his wallet.

Sean Ellam, 32, of 340 Summerfield Ave., Bridgeport, was charged Thursday with third-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, third-degree assault, and interfering with police.

Two detectives parked in an unmarked car near Butler Street and Hanover Street around 3:30 p.m. witnessed a man push another man to the ground and go through his pockets, according to a police report. The detectives tried to stop the man, but he ran away. He was eventually found near South Grove Street.

The man knocked to the ground reported that Ellam stole his wallet, which officers found in a nearby bush, the report said. There was no money in the wallet.

Ellam was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Friday. Bond was set at $75,000 and he is due back in court on Feb. 28.
