Meriden police: Man found sleeping in stolen car

MERIDEN — A man faces charges after police said he was found sleeping inside a stolen car Tuesday.

Michael Johnson, 42, no address listed, was charged with third-degree larceny.

Members of the crime suppression unit found a light blue Honda Civic parked in the area of 680 Old Colony Road around 2:40 p.m. and noticed the car matched a description of a car reported stolen on Sunday, according to a police report.

Police approached the car and found Johnson sleeping in the passenger seat, the report said. Johnson denied stealing the car and officers found the key to the car near Johnson’s foot.

Johnson was taken into custody and arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Wednesday. Bond was set at $1,000 and he is due back in court on Sept. 18.
