Meriden police: Man stole sweatshirt at Boscov's, found with marijuana

MERIDEN — A city man faces charges after police said he stole a sweatshirt from Boscov’s on Sunday and was found with marijuana packaged for sale.

Victor Garcia, 19, of 66 Windsor Ave. was charged with sixth-degree larceny, possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police responded to Boscov’s, 480 Lewis Ave., around 1 p.m. for a report of shoplifting. A loss prevention employee said they witnessed Garcia put a sweatshirt into his backpack and attempt to walk out of the store before he was stopped by store staff, according to a police report.

Once the sweatshirt was removed from his backpack, police found a glass jar and smaller bags containing marijuana and a scale, the report said. Police noted the marijuana was packaged for sale.

Garcia was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Monday and released on a promise to appear in court on June 26.
