WALLINGFORD — A Meriden man faces charges after police said he assaulted an ex-girlfriend earlier this month.
David Smith, 54, of 17 Crown St., Ext., was charged Friday with third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and second-degree breach of peace.
On April 9, the ex-girlfriend reported she went to a Swan Avenue home at the request of Smith, according to Smith’s arrest warrant. The woman said they were arguing when Smith slammed her to the floor and began punching her in the head and torso. When she got up, Smith squeezed her neck, threw her across the room and squeezed her neck.
The woman fled when Smith’s father intervened.
Smith was released after posting $100,00 bond. He is due to appear in Meriden Superior Court again on May 3.
