Meriden police: City man charged after fight over cat

MERIDEN — A city man faces charges after police said he punched his roommate in a dispute over a cat.

David Almeyda, 21, of 1047 Old Colony Road, was charged Friday with third-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

On Aug. 12 around 2 a.m. police responded to MidState Medical Center for a report of an assault victim. Officers spoke with a man who said he got into an argument with his roommate, identified as Almeyda, over cleaning up after a cat, according to a police report. The man said Almeyda “sucker punched” him, causing him to fall against refrigerator.

The man suffered an injury above his right ear requiring 14 stitches, the report said.

Almeyda was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court Friday and released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 27.
