Meriden police: City man assaulted pregnant woman, found with drugs, guns

MERIDEN — A city man faces charges after police said he assaulted a pregnant woman and was found with drugs and firearms.

Jakeese Dingwell, 27, of 115 Willow St., was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, five counts of violation of a protective order, two counts of second-degree strangulation, four counts of assault on a pregnant person, three counts of unlawful restraint, two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a firearm. 

Early Thursday a woman reported she was assaulted by Dingwell the previous day. The woman, who said she was pregnant, told police Dingwell grabbed her by the throat, hit her and tried to push her down stairs, according to Dingwell’s arrest warrant. Police searched the Willow Street home and found a bag containing 43 rounds of ammunition and a magazine. A search of a car Dingwell uses turned up a 20 gauge shotgun.

Police discovered Dingwell also stays at a home at 245 Crown St. Around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, police saw Dingwell exit a car and enter 245 Crown St. before returning to the car, according to a police report. 

Officers stopped and searched the vehicle, finding 15.8 grams of crack cocaine, 3.2 grams of marijuana and $741 cash. Police searched the Crown Street home and reported finding a loaded Remington rifle and a 12 gauge shotgun. 

Dingwell was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Friday. His bond amount was not available.
