Police: Meriden man fled from detectives in June

MERIDEN — A local man faces charges after police said he fled from detectives last month, driving recklessly.

Kelvin Acevedo, 29, of 53 Liberty St., was charged Wednesday with reckless driving, reckless endangerment and interfering with police.

On June 5 detectives saw a man inside a vehicle conduct a hand to hand transaction in the Britannia Street area, police spokesman Sgt. Darrin McKay said. When the detectives approached the vehicle, it drove off at a high rate of speed.

Acevedo, who was driving the vehicle, ran a traffic light at the intersection of Broad Street and Britannia Street and eventually got on Interstate 691, McKay said. Police submitted a warrant for the charges the next day.

Acevedo turned himself in on Wednesday. He was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Sept. 5.
