MERIDEN — A city man faces a fifth-degree larceny charge after police said he used a woman’s debit card to make almost $1,000 in unauthorized purchases.

Jose Serrano, 27, of 13 Pine Tree Ridge, was arrested on Jan. 18.

On Dec. 1, 2017 a woman reported her debit card was used to make about $990 worth of unauthorized purchases. The woman told police that due to a medical condition it is difficult for her to leave her home and she previously gave her debit card to Serrano, who rented a room in her home, to make purchases for her, according to a police report.

The woman told police she did not authorize the $990 worth of transactions, which included cash withdrawals, the report said.

Serrano was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday. Bond was set at $1,000 and he is due back in court on Feb. 26.
