Meriden man charged with removing tires from relative's car

MERIDEN — A Willimantic man faces charges after police said he stole tires from a relative’s car following a dispute in May.

Brandon Fuentes, 23, of 155 S. Park St., Willimantic, was charged Monday with second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, fifth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny.

On May 26, a man reported he got into a dispute with Fuentes, his cousin, over car tires, according to a police report. The man said after he switched his tires for Fuentes tires, Fuentes demanded his tires back. The man said he didn’t have the lug nut key, so Fuentes got in the man’s car and drove to the man’s home.

Fuentes got the lug nut key and, with the help of friends, jacked the man’s car up, removed the tires and left the car on blocks, the report said.

Fuentes was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday. The judge released him on a promise to appear and continued the case until Sept. 25.
