Meriden police charge Southington woman with DUI, reckless driving

MERIDEN — A Southington woman is facing DUI and reckless driving charges.

Police responded to the area of 953 W. Main St. about 1:30 a.m. Friday for a report of a car into a house. Officers found a vehicle on an embankment in the area with the driver inside, said Sgt. Darrin McKay, police spokesman.

Kelly Cozzolino, 38, of 996 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Plantsville, was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. Officers noticed she was unsteady on her feet, confused and she failed a field sobriety test, McKay said.

Cozzolino told police she had been drinking alcohol at a bar in Cromwell, McKay said. Police found a large, open bottle of vodka in the vehicle.

Cozzolino’s breathalyzer test result was over two times the legal limit of .08, McKay said. She was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on March 19.
