MERIDEN — A city woman faces charges after police said she assaulted her elderly mother and filed a false report about her mother’s mental state last fall.
Eileen Cardona, 48, of 115 Lydale Place, was charged Thursday with third-degree assault on an elderly person, second-degree falsely reporting an incident and disorderly conduct.
On Oct. 30, police say Cardona assaulted her mother during a financial dispute over the home they owned together. The next day, Cardona filed a police report claiming her mother suffered from dementia, depression and was suicidal, according to her arrest warrant. The mother was hospitalized under an emergency order based on Cardona’s statements.
The mother told police Cardona wanted full ownership of the home and was attempting to have her deemed incompetent. The mother underwent a psychiatric evaluation which showed she was competent and had no signs of the issues her daughter reported, the warrant said.
Cardona was arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Thursday. The judge entered a protective order barring Cardona from any contact with her mother. The case was continued to May 17.
