MERIDEN — Police continue to investigate last week’s fatal house fire on Carpenter Avenue. Authorities initially identified the person who died in the fire Monday morning, but later said the person has not yet been positively identified.
After initially releasing the person’s name, police spokesman Sgt. Christopher Fry said authorities are still working to confirm the identity of the person through forensic analysis.
The fire marshal and city and state police are investigating the cause of the fire. The home, which is owned by Michael and Mary Ellen Avery, has been deemed a total loss.
The two-story, single-family house was ablaze when engines arrived around 3:15 a.m. Thursday.
“Due to the large volume of fire and the amount of water needed in the area, mutual aid tankers were called in to supplement water supply,” Dunn said.
