MERIDEN — A man was taken to Hartford Hospital after gunshots were fired on Curtis Street Wednesday afternoon.
Sgt. John Mennone described the man’s injuries as “non-life threatening.” He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.
The suspect, who Mennone said was a man known to police, fled the scene on foot and was at large Wednesday night.
Officers said they believed the gunshots and the man’s injuries were prompted by a domestic dispute.
“The general public is safe,” Mennone said. “We have multiple resources here on scene, there is no concern for anyone in the area at this particular time.”
Police responded to 75 Curtis St. about 3:20 p.m. and officers with rifles and police dogs were seen canvassing the area. A section of a sidewalk was cordoned off with yellow tape.
Witnesses said they heard between one and four gunshots.
Mennone said city police are being assisted by state police and other agencies.
