MERIDEN — Police are searching for an armed and dangerous man after he fired a shot and aimed a gun at a clerk at the Shell gas station on Old Colony Road Friday.

Just after 4 p.m. police responded to the Shell Gas Station at the intersection of Hall Avenue and Old Colony Road for a report of shots fired, Sgt. Christopher Fry, police spokesman, said. Officers learned a man wearing all black clothing with his face partially obscured walked into the store, pointed a firearm at the ceiling and fired a round, Fry said. The man then swung his arm around and concentrated the gun at the clerk and told the clerk to get on the ground, Fry said.

The man then fled the store without taking anything, Fry said. He fled up Hall Avenue. Police are actively pursuing several leads and consider the man armed and dangerous, Fry said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. John Wagner at 203-630-6334.
