WORCESTER — The Record-Journal was honored by the New England Newspaper and Press Association last week as a “distinguished newspaper” for both its daily and Sunday publications.

The awards were presented at NENPA’s fall conference held at the AC Hotel Marriott in Worcester. Editors, reporters, publishers and other staff from over a dozen New England publications received awards.

The Record-Journal was recognized as 2019 Distinguished Newspaper for both the weekday edition and Sunday edition, awarded to publications with a circulation of 5,000 to 10,000.

Other distinguished newspapers in that category included the Gloucester Daily Times of Massachusetts for weekday editions, and The Sun Chronicle and The Herald News both of Massachusetts for Sunday editions.

In addition to the Record-Journal, Connecticut newspapers that won awards were the Hartford Courant, Bristol Press, New Britain Herald, Willimantic Chronicle and Republican-American.

Publick Occurrences Awards, awarded to journalism that shows individual and team merit, were given out to 16 publications, from Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
