Construction nearing completion on Taino Smokehouse Prime in Meriden

MERIDEN — Exterior work is nearing completion at Taino Smokehouse Prime on East Main Street.

An employee on Friday said officials hope to finish construction on the restaurant, at 1388 E. Main St., by January.

The restaurant will be the second Taino Smokehouse in the area. The first is at 482 S. Main St. in Middletown.

Sandra Russo-Driska, general manager of Taino Smokehouse, said in September that the new restaurant will seat 260 people.

“It will focus on hospitality, quality and theatre,” Russo-Driska said in a statement. “We will have an open barbecue pit and wood fired grill. Our ingredients will be the finest quality; time and care will be taken in the preparation of all food items.”

“In addition, we will have a full restaurant, bar, and marketplace,” Russo-Driska continued. “This restaurant will be dry aging prime steaks and will produce our own charcuterie, smoked meats, ice cream, canned goods, cheese, and many more exciting things.”

In October, Huxley’s Bookmark Cafe owner Dimitrios Klonaras said the restaurant would move to 1376 E. Main St.; a building originally intended for Skybox Bar & Grill. Huxley’s lease at 1333 E. Main St. ends in 2019.

Earlier this year, Family Dollar opened at nearby 1324 E. Main St.
