MERIDEN  — Powder puff will return to Wilcox Technical High School this year in a game against Vinal Technical High School next Tuesday.

Last year, Wilcox didn’t have a game due to lack of interest, but interest is in full swing this year.

“The class of 2018 was working really hard to do it this year,” Wilcox senior Katrina Torres said of fielding a team.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Falcon Field.

The team, which has about 30 girls, has been practicing for weeks on drills. They have also learned plays and identified each of their roles for the game.

“Since the beginning, it was a little shaky, but I think from our practices we’ve gotten better,” quarterback Sam Petro said. “Our coaches have done an amazing job…I really feel like we know what we’re doing now.”

The team is coached by Wilcox physical education teachers Bruce Haney and Daniel Burns.

Petro considers powder puff the highlight of every senior girl’s year.

“We are so excited,” Petro said. “That’s the only thing we talk about in classes now.”

Admission is $5 for students and $8 for adults. Money will go to the Wilcox Class of 2018.

“I’m really excited. Our team is looking pretty good,” Torres said. “We’re excited to see what Vinal brings.”
